Diagnostics
My specialized practice offers hematological-oncological differential diagnostics including bone marrow histology and bone marrow cytology. Diagnostics are carried out in cooperation with the following laboratories and institutes:
- Institute of Pathology, LMU Munich (Pathologisches Institut der LMU München), (Prof. Dr. med. Frederick Klauschen)
- Molecular genetic analysis with MLL Munich (Prof. Dr. med. Torsten Haferlach, mll.com) and the laboratory Dr. Eberhardt & Partner (Dr. rer. nat. Thomas Haverkamp), Dortmund (labmed.de).
- For hematopathology: special cooperations with the institutes of pathology in Munich (Prof. Dr. med. Martina Rudelius), Freiburg/Breisgau (Prof. Dr. med. Martin Werner, pathologie.uniklinik-freiburg.de) and Hanover (Prof. Dr. med. Hans Heinrich Kreipe, Institute of Pathology, Hannover Medical School)
- Porphyria laboratory diagnostics: cooperation with the IPNET laboratory MVZ Karlsruhe (Dr. rer. nat. Thomas Stauch)
We offer the following diagnostic methods directly in the practice (point-of-care diagnostics):
- Ultrasound (General Electric Logic P5) of abdominal organs including spleen volume measurement, lymph nodes and thyroid, as well as Doppler examination of blood vessels
- Capillary and venous complete blood count analysis (ABX Micros CRP 200)
- Quantitative CRP measurement (ABX Micros CRP 200)
- Tumor marker diagnostics in our own laboratory (Roche Diagnostics).
We also regularly take part in external quality assessment schemes (hematology and tumor markers, instand.de).
We also offer internal medicine diagnostics such as:
- Electrocardiography (ECG), 24-hour ECG, exercise ECG
- 24-hour blood pressure monitoring
- Oximetry – measurement of the oxygen content of the blood
- Pulmonary function testing
Treatment
- Individualized treatment planning
- Outpatient immunotherapy with immune checkpoint inhibitors (e.g., Keytruda®, Opdivo®), monoclonal antibodies (e.g., Erbitux®, Vectibix®, Darzalex®, Enhertu®, Herceptin®, Kadcyla®, Nucala®, Ilaris®)
- Outpatient administration of combination chemotherapy protocols
- Tyrosine kinase and JAK2 kinase inhibitors (e.g., Glivec®, Tasigna®, Bosulif®, Jakavi®, Inrebic®, Tukysa® , Omjjara® and others),
- Interferon-alpha preparations such as Besremi® and Pegasys®
- Outpatient transfusion of blood components

Oncology
Our oncological specialties include the treatment of gynecological and colorectal tumors as well as rare neuroendocrine tumors – always individually tailored.
Gynecological Tumors
- In particular, patients with breast cancer (mammary carcinoma) and ovarian cancer (ovarian carcinoma)
- Interdisciplinary cooperation with gynecologists in Munich and Prien am Chiemsee since 2000. Member of the breast cancer and ovarian cancer project groups at the Tumorzentrum München (Munich Tumor Center).
- Joint breast cancer clinic with Prof. Kurt Possinger (Charité Berlin) at Klinikum Großhadern Munich in the 1990s. Subsequently breast cancer outpatient clinic at Charité Mitte, Berlin.
- Regular continuing education events for professionals and the general public
Colorectal Tumors
- Own scientific studies on the significance of epidermal growth factor (EGF) and its receptors (EGF receptors); work on colorectal carcinomas.
- First studies on the significance of the EGF receptor in solid tumors as a starting point for the development of EGF receptor antagonists (Erbitux®, Vectibix®).
Neuroendocrine Tumors
- Special interest in these rare diseases since my time in the laboratory of Prof. Dr. Roger Guillemin.
Integrative Oncology (Silima Klinik)
- Cooperation with the Silima Klinik in Riedering (chief physician Dr. med. Fritz Friedl) from 2007 to 2017 (end of Dr. Friedl's clinical activity).
- Treatment of tumor patients by combining conventional medicine (chemotherapy, immunotherapy, palliative care) with the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (phytotherapy, decoctions), acupuncture, etc.
Hematology
In hematology, the focus is on chronic myeloproliferative disorders, porphyrias and iron metabolism – complemented by expertise in rare diseases.
Chronic Myeloproliferative Disorders
- Reference center for chronic myeloproliferative disorders with a specialized clinic (more than 700 patients): essential (primary) thrombocythemia, polycythemia vera (PV), primary myelofibrosis as well as mastocytosis, hypereosinophilic syndrome and chronic myelomonocytic leukemia.
- Active in this field for 30 years. First large clinical trial with the platelet-lowering agent anagrelide in Europe, co-initiator and German study director of the ANAHYDRET trial. Organizer of the DFG conferences on chronic myeloproliferative disorders (2000), thrombosis (2005) and tissue fibrosis (2010) (details at innova-med.de)
- Scientific cooperation with Prof. Jacek Wisniewski (Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry, Martinsried near Munich) on proteome analysis in patients with polycythemia vera, essential thrombocythemia and myelofibrosis.
- Editor of the recommendations “Diagnostik und Therapie chronisch-myeloproliferativer Erkrankungen (Diagnosis and Treatment of Chronic Myeloproliferative Disorders)” CMPE 2016 (5th edition), CMPE 2018 (6th edition), CMPE 2019 (7th edition), 8th edition in preparation. 1st Russian edition 2014, 1st English edition MPN 2017, 2nd English edition MPN 2019, 3rd edition in preparation
- Co-developer of the guidelines for these diseases on behalf of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Hämatologie und Onkologie (German Society of Hematology and Oncology) (onkopedia.com).
